What is Chicken Strut?
An annual family fun walk and fundraiser to raise money to purchase food for more than 10,000 Christmas baskets for families in need during the holidays when children are not in school.
When is it held?
Always held the Saturday Before Thanksqiving!
The Neighborhood Christian Centers, Inc. (NCC) hosts this annual walk from its main headquarters on Jackson Avenue near the uptown community. While this only the 4th year of the Chicken Strut, NCC has provided Christmas baskets to the needy every year since 1989. Now know officially as the Christmas Baskets and Service Program, this effort supplies our "neighbor in need" with food staples and other personal items.
Are 10,000 food basket really needed?
Each year more families request our help. More than 10,000 baskets were distributed in 2010 and we have already begun to receive this year's request. Memphis families are hurting. Your participation in the Chicken Strut will help to feed many of our neighbors.
So what happens at Chicken Strut?
Loads of fun from 9 until 1 (or as long as you like).
8:00 - Reqistration begins.
8:30 Pre-Strut Program and Warm-up
9:00 Rain or shine-We start strutin'
We strut west from NCC on Jackson Avenue, travel through the uptown community to Front Street and then return to NCC for lots of games, contests and lip-smackin' chicken refreshment.
Okay, I'm in. Where do I park?
We have arranged parking with our neighbors, but we encourage all participants to arrive early enough to park, check in and use the restroom as the Walk will begin promptly at 9:00. There will be a restroom available along the course courtesty of designated uptown businesses.
No additional fee for late or on-site registration! However t-shirts availability and sizes are limited.
The Chicken Strut is not a competitive race and is intended as a pre-Thanksgiving opportunity for family fun as we reach out to help our community. In the spirit of fun, post-Walk activities will include chicken-themed games and contests, snacks, and pictures with the NCC chicken!
INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATION
Individual - $15 (1 t-shirt)
Individual (Ages 12 and under) - $6 (1 t-shirt)
Ages 0-3 – FREE (no t-shirt)
Non-Strutter Fun Pass- $10 per person (no t-shirt)
CHICKEN COOP REGISTRATION
Family - $50 per household (4 t-shirts)
Groups, Churches (10 or more) -$150 (10 t-shirts)
