50,000 pounds of yams to help feed city's poor
The Neighborhood Christian Center distributed 50,000 pounds of yams last week to low-income and homeless people from across the city.
About a thousand 50-pound boxes of sweet potatoes were distributed Wednesday to local church groups at the Neighborhood Christian Center at 735 N. Parkway. The churches in turn will distribute food to the poor in their neighborhood.
The food was donated by Feed the Children, an Oklahoma City - based organization that supplies food to agencies across the country that feed the poor.
Neighborhood Christian Center has 10 offices across the city.
